WHERE TO GO FOR WORLD CLASS BIKING AND WINE TASTING

|

NZ-Juliane-Cormier

It is not unusual to learn about New Zealand from our New Zealand friends in the travel industry, but today it was a pleasure to hear about a beautiful, natural area on the South Island that is perfect for hiking in the Abel Tasman National Park, biking on scenic trails, and tasting Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc wines from an American woman who moved from California with her husband and started Velo Vino, focusing on wine and bike tours.

IMG_0058Because they wanted an outdoor lifestyle in beautiful surroundings, Juliane Cormier and her husband, Glenn, chose Nelson as their new home. The area is kind of a hidden gem, since it not on the regular touring circuit for the South Island, so you are less likely to find groups traveling in the area. It is also known as the sunniest place in New Zealand.

Having worked as a certified wine professional in California for over 13 years, Juliane is the perfect guide to take a small group (maximum 6 adults) to boutique organic vineyards in the area. Even two people can enjoy a half or full day wine tour with Juliane.

Glenn heads up the cycle tours and will provide the bike, helmet, water bottle and snack for a half day tour and include lunch on the full day tour. You can choose to have Glenn either lead the way or take a self-guided tour. The routes are matched to your abilities and preferences.

For those with less time or who want to do everything at once, you can bike in the morning and taste wine in the afternoon. It sounds like the perfect, guilt-free day!

How far would you travel to experience the best outdoor activities in a pristine environment?
